One of our enrollment categories at OAC caters for elite athletes. Due to hectic training schedules, travel for competitions and interstate or overseas placements these young people often find it difficult to attend regular schools.
Currently we have 2 young football (soccer) hopefuls based in Europe. Yannick Norrito in France and Gianni Caretti in Italy. OAC Principal, Julie Taylor, recently took the opportunity to drop in on Gianni during her long service leave holiday to Italy. Gianni is currently training and playing for Ateletico Orte Soccer Club in Umbria. During May he will compete in selection trials where he hopes to be selected by one of the larger northern teams.
Gianni will travel home during the off-season (mid June to end of July) when he hopes to also catch up with his teachers Gill Maguire and Marlene Cruikshank. Gianni is completing his year 12 studies over 2 years. Apart from missing his school friends and getting used to attending lessons in the late evening (due to time difference), Gianni had adapted to online learning and is making good progress.
